the murray secret

I have talked about Giveaways before in previous posts and how by joining as a contributor, you can get targeted traffic to your website and build your list at the same time. Although Giveaways are great for this reason and to get free stuff for yourself, they can also attract ‘free-loaders’, i.e. those who are only looking for free stuff and to whom you will probably never make a sale. Not everyone who signs up on your list is the same. You will get a few people who just want the freebies but you will also get a few buyers too. One thing that I have learned is that a lot of people have had their hands burned in the past, like I have and so they do not really want to spend out any more of their hard earned cash and basically, who can blame them. Really, you have to take the rough with the smooth with any Giveaway event. Those subscribers who do not read your emails or who are ‘freeloaders’ will eventually unsubscribe from your list anyway. Although this may sound like bad news because you want to build your list, you need to have a list of ‘buyers’, people who will open your emails and read them.  You cannot expect each one of your subscribers to purchase something from you every time you send out a broadcast but it is better to have a few sales than none at all.

It is a good idea to keep your list happy with gifts from time to time, after all, they are allowing you to email them - they have given you their name and email address - permission to write to them with helpful information and perhaps some useful product reviews. So ‘giving’ by way of products that you have the license to give away or products that you have created yourself is a way of saying ‘thank you’. Building a list takes time and a lot of patience. However, if you stick at it, you will get there eventually. My last post talked about using online safelists such as List Dot Com and Mammoth List to name just two that you can use to build a subscriber base. Using these together with contributing to Giveaway events will give you more opportunities to build your list.

They say the money is in the list and top marketers who have thousands of subscribers on their lists can make quite a lot of money by sending out just one email broadcast a week. If only 4% of your subscribers open your emails and only 4% of those purchase from you, if you are selling at just $17 and have a list of 30,000 you could stand to make $816 on just one broadcast (if my math is correct!) If your percentages are higher and/or your product costs more then you can see how the top marketers like Mike Filsaime for example, are in the money.

More recently, Guido Nussbaum, who held his first giveaway for Halloween last year (and which was the first Giveaway that I ever entered as a contributor), exploded his list and is sitting rather comfortably. Another marketer who recently gave up his day job was Odin Sorrensen who held his first giveaway earlier this year entitled “Daddy’s Birthday Giveaway” to celebrate ‘financial freedom’ as well as his, er, birthday.

These marketers have however worked hard to get where they are now. They have persevered and have finally ‘made it’. Although I have joined a few giveaways since Halloween of 2007 and have been building my list quite nicely, my list is still rather small compared to those marketers I have mentioned above. This brings me to the reason for this post.

One marketer whose list I am on and who is very picky about which Giveaway he joins, sent out a broadcast about a new kind of giveaway. This giveaway is directed towards hungry buyers and is being advertised as an anti-giveaway. Hosted by Henry Gold and Pat Murray of the 117 Network, they have held giveaways such as this before and contributors have gained 20,000 and 30,000 new subscribers within just a few hours of launch.

Rather than the ‘product’ being the actual giveaway, the product in this case is a brand new report which will point you in the right direction of creating a highly profitable business that can make you money on autopilot.

Although there are quite a few products online that teach you how to build a business and make money on autopilot, this guide is quite different. I sat down last night and read it from beginning to end. There are quite a few pointers in this report that I found to be extremely helpful and the story of rags to riches to rags and back to riches again is extremely inspiring.

Whether you have been a contributor to giveaways in the past or have joined just to download the free stuff and have become disillusioned with the products that are available for download at such events, the Murray Secret anti-giveaway is well worth the visit if only to get this free report.

While you’re there, you can download my new pack of graphics - “3 Minisites in a Box: Hobby Ezines” with Master Resale Rights completely free.

building a list of subscribers

Building a list of subscribers is at the top of every marketers agenda. If you have your own opt in list, as soon as you create a new product or find a new product to affiliate with, you can instantly advertise the product direct to your mailing list, saving you time and money on paid advertising.

I have talked about how you can build your list of subscribers in previous posts by utilising JV Giveaway events. By submitting a product for free, especially if it is something that you have created yourself and not seen anywhere else on the Internet, can help you build a large list of subscribers. By placing a free product on your website for others to download after they have opted in is another way of building your list. However, you will still need to get traffic to your site in order to do this, which is why JV Giveaway events are so popular - many people are involved, sending out broadcasts to their own lists and creating a wave of traffic to the site in question.

Because emailing a list of subscribers is the most effective way of advertising products and making money online, quite a few websites now exist that give you the opportunity of emailing their lists. Places such as List Dot Com and Your Lucky List allow you to become a free member and send out a broadcast to thousands of other random members every week or every other day, depending on whether you upgrade or not. Being able to instantly email thousands of people can give you a good start on building your own list. I have had quite a few subscribers join my personal list through services such as these.

Each service that is provided works in a slightly different way and I set out these differences below using the services that I use as examples.

List Bandit

List Bandit is free to join but there is an upgrading feature on site. You will be able to email a list of thousands on site as a free member. If you upgrade by paying a fee, any leads you get will have their details delivered direct to your autoresponder.

List Dot Com

List Dot Com is another free service with an upgrade available if you so wish. Again you will be able to email a list of thousands. If you upgrade to diamond level, you will be able to email 5000 people every five days.

Your Lucky List

This is another service which allows you to randomly email a certain number of people. This is done on site unless you upgrade. If you upgrade, you can have your leads delivered direct to your autoresponder.

The List Machine

Again, this service allows you to randomly email a certain number of people. If you upgrade you may email more people and earn a commission if the people you sponsor upgrade too. Personally I think it’s a little too expensive.

Triple Your List

This service is excellent as you get three personal leads delivered to your inbox every week. This includes their first and last names, IP address and of course, their email address. You are then able to email your personal leads more than once. Obviously you need to take care when emailing others. To be in compliance with anti SPAM laws, you need to provide an unsubscribe feature, i.e. “please send me an email to state that you do not want to receive any more emails from me” and you must include your name and address and contact telephone number. You should also state that you obtained their email address from Triple Your List so that they know where you obtained their details and that you are a fellow Triple Your List member. I now have 246 personal leads through this service.

My Free Safelist

This is great for advertising. You can join free if you want to, however if you upgrade it will only cost a $12 one time fee which enables you to post unlimited ads every day! You may also purchase banner advertising which is extra to the $12. If you upgrade and sponsor someone who also upgrades, you get 100% commission so you only need to sponsor one person to get your money back making this list service completely free. If you sponsor more people who upgrade, this could turn into a nice little earner for you.

Mammoth List

Again, there is a little bit of MLM involved in this one but the idea of building your list and getting paid at the same time can make this service very desirable. There is a one time fee of $12, $2 of which is for administration fees and the other $10 is shared out to the first five people in your upline at $2 each. If you personally sponsor 20 people, you will get $2 from each of them, giving you $40. The four people immediately above you will also get $40 each. Now this is where it gets interesting. If the 20 people that you have sponsored each sponsor 20 people, that will give you another 400 people on your list. From each of those 400 people you will get $2 giving you another $800!

The beauty of My Free Safelist and Mammoth List is that it is quite easy to sponsor people with these programs because not only is it low cost to join but they have earning potential too.

Everyone who uses these sites are double opt-ins, which means that they have verified their email addresses. This also means that your email to them will not be regarded as SPAM and will reach their inboxes, enabling you to advertise your product, affiliate program or business opportunity. You will need to be prepared to receive emails from other members, just as they will receive emails from you either via the service on site or through your autoresponder if you have upgraded. You may even receive emails from personal accounts especially in the case of Triple Your List where your details will have been delivered direct to other members’ email accounts.

It is a good idea to open a free Google email account specifically for using these services. In the case of Triple Your List, unless you import your personal leads to your autoresponder, you will have to email them direct from your personal account. Having a Google Mail account such as JohnDoeMarketing at Googlemail.com or using the email account on your own personal website will look a lot more professional than using for example, prettyinpink at mail.com.

If you are thinking of using one or more of these services, instead of sending your prospective subscribers direct to an affiliate product or website, send them to your own landing page first where you can place a free product for them to download after they have opted in. The reason for this is that most autoresponder services such as Aweber, do not allow you to import leads into their system. By sending your leads to a capture page, although they will need to opt in again, this will save you the bother of trying to find an autoresponder company that will allow you to import leads. I have looked but haven’t found one as yet.

Not everyone will want to opt in to your list however, if you have a free product on site or valuable information that your prospective subscriber can only get by opting into your list, you will stand a better chance of capturing them.

Using services such as those mentioned above is a great way of reaching thousands of prospects with your product or service. Although not everyone will open your emails, if you have a compelling subject line to tempt members to read your offer, you will stand a better chance of reaching thousands of prospects and building an explosive list of subscribers.

video marketing

Videos are a great way to sell a product and is the way forward in Niche and Internet Marketing. People love to watch videos as opposed to reading a long sales letter as it is entertaining and people love to be entertained. This is why the cinema and television is so popular and why ‘moving pictures’ caught on in the first place.

Many of the so-called gurus of online marketing have their own videos to sell their products and this has proven to be very successful with the marketer doubling or even tripling his sales. YouTube has also become very popular with marketers utilising the site to promote their own product and providing a link to their website. Hundreds and thousands of people visit YouTube every day and by having a video advertising your product on a site such as this, can give you lots of traffic to your website and even possibly double your sales.

If you don’t have your own product and prefer to affiliate with others, you will know that having your own website to be used as a landing page to catch a few subscribers before you send them to the product you have affiliated with, is a great idea and more profitable for you. However, once you get someone to visit your website, you still have to convince them to look at the product and also opt-in to your list for more information. You could have a squeeze page with a few dynamic words to help your prospect make the decision to click your affiliate link or you could have your own video.

If you are like me, a non technical person, then creating your own video will seem like a learning curve that you may not want to have to go through. Creating a marketing video is all okay and hunky dorey for the ‘guru’s of Internet Marketing who can afford to pay for someone else to create their videos for them. It is also nice and dandy for those who know how to create their own videos and have the tools to do such. However, I have just found something that although may not be new to many people, it is new to me - a website that will allow you to create your very own videos for free! Yep, that’s right - FREE!

This really cool little website is One True Media.

You can upgrade your account if you want to for just $4 per month so that you get extra tools including music to go with your video but it isn’t necessary. Once you have made your video and are happy with it, you just click the button and they send it to YouTube for you! I just made my very first video on this website which has been uploaded to YouTube! I also have this video on my Squidoo lens and on my profile page at Wowzza!

Here is the video that I made (the graphics are a little stretched because of the size of the video - they look much better on a smaller screen and even more so in ‘real life’):

If you want to get ahead with video marketing together with your affiliate marketing and don’t want all the hassle of learning how to create your own videos, One True Media could be for you. Considering that the service is free with the option of a very low cost upgrade, it makes it affordable for everyone! You can also promote the product itself as One True Media has it’s own affiliate program.

Marketing and videos go together like strawberries and cream - the strawberries being the product with the videos providing the cream or the finishing touch. If you want to give Video Marketing a shot, then One True Media is worth trying out, especially if you are an avid affiliate marketer too.
